Brandi and Neal have that kind of love that is quiet, sweet, and absolutely undeniable. I first met Brandi in college, Monmouth College, in Monmouth, Illinois. She was friends with my college bestie’s twin sister; they actually lived together senior year. I always remember her as being fun and sweet without having to share many words. The day she inquired about having me document her love story, I immediately got butterflies!
Brandi and Neal met at work and bonded heavily over games of Dungeons and Dragons. Even though they consider themselves to be a more “quiet, awkward, [and] introverted” couple, they did the exact opposite at their session. They were so at ease just being around each other, that I definitely did not get any of that while encountering them together.
We met just an hour before sunset at the University of Wisconsin at Madison Arboretum in Madison, Wisconsin. It was in the middle of winter, but we lucked out with weather that was not too cold, but still chilly enough that the couple was able to feel comfortable in their fall attire.
One of the main things that I stress to the couples that work with me is that their engagement photos will feel more meaningful if they dress like themselves. This is mainly for the fact that if you dress like yourself, you feel like yourself, and that tends to give you way more confidence than wearing something completely new that you wouldn’t normally wear, or worse, is physically uncomfortable.
Brandi and Neal opted for a casual fall look to wear to their engagement session. Neal wore a nice warm vest over a flannel shirt and jeans. Brandi also opted for jeans, but she styled them with a light cardigan over a light top. This is the perfect example of a couple matching, without feeling too “matchy-matchy.” Also, the fact that they both wear glasses makes my heart swoon with adorableness.
